Uganda and Rwanda

Uganda is lush tropical country situated to the north of Lake Victoria, bordering both Tanzania and Kenya. Rwanda borders the south-west of Uganda and is to the west of Tanzania. Rwanda is known as the land of 1000 hills.

Both Uganda and Rwanda are some of the best places in the world to see the rare Mountain Gorilla. In fact this species only survives in the Virunga mountain chain in a tiny corner of the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda. We recommend a three (or more) night stay in or near Bwindi national park in Uganda, or Parc national des volcans in Rwanda to see the gorillas

A gorilla tracking safari in Uganda can be combined with other places in Uganda, such as Queen Elizabeth national park, famous for its herds of Uganda Kob, Kibale forest, and Semliki-Toro game reserve, where you can track chimpanzees, or places in neighbouring Kenya or Tanzania. Uganda has over 1000 species of birds, and is a birder’s paradise with many varied habitats. For a sample itinerary combining Kenya for big game and Uganda for primate tracking, visit our downloads area.

A safari to Rwanda is best combined with Kenya or Tanzania, as there are direct flights between these two countries, and both offer a wide variety of places to explore.
